A new acquisition

A wedding wardrobe from the Pays de Caux is now part of the collection at the Museum of Norman Arts and Traditions in the Château de Martainville. The wardrobe’s curved cornice, known in French as "chapeau de gendarme", confirms its origin as specific to the Normandy area.
Its design is typical of the French pre-revolutionary period. The numerous motifs carved on the wardrobe symbolize traditional wedding customs and make it an interesting artefact.
